Functional Testing

Most traditional medical lab tests are static. An analogy of static testing would be like taking a picture of a football scoreboard at halftime. You know what the score is but you do not know who wins the game. You only have a “snapshot” of a static moment in time. Nutrient levels have historically been measured using blood serum. These measurements are known to fluctuate drastically from day to day depending on diet, stress, and other factors; therefore they do not provide an accurate measure of a person’s true nutritional status.

Functional tests are based on biochemical outcomes. For example, to detect nutritional deficiencies, Dr. Zac Watkins uses a patented technology based on 17 years of research at the University of Texas. The tests measures intracellular vitamin stores (Spectracell) based on the ability of your cells to grow.

This test can detect vitamin, mineral, and other nutrient deficiencies that commonly go undetected with traditional medical testing. In addition, there are numerous other functional diagnostic laboratory tests that Dr. Watkins can utilize to help identif underlying medical problems. Some of these include gluten testing, food allergy panels, intestinal health, and others.

So the point is, Functional Tests are very different then your standard medical lab tests. They can give Dr. Zac insights into the true nature of your health problem that a medical lab cannot. Finding out the root cause is half the battle in restoring your health.

A great example of the different type of testing that Dr. Zac does is the SpectraCell Micronutrient test. It is possible for individuals to be deficient in some vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and/or other essential micronutrients and not even know about it.
