Grass Fed Beef

Why Grass-Fed beef?

High quality animal protein for your family is very hard to find in common neighborhood health food stores. Nearly 100% of the beef sold in health food stores is not “real” beef. It may be organic—the cattle are fed organic grains. But it is a well-known fact that cattle are not designed to eat grains!

Feed Real Cattle Real Grass—Not Grains

  • The fat content of beef is the #1 reason why many recommend against eating it.
  • Most beef cuts have a high fat content, ranging from 35-75%
  • The majority of beef fat is saturated.
  • According to Animal Science 2000 “Grain fed beef can have an omega 6:3 ratio higher than 20.1”

This categorically surpasses the 4.1 ratio range where health problems like heart disease, high cholesterol, cancer, and more become evident due to essential fat imbalance. And if that isn’t bad enough, grain fed beef can contain over 50% of the far less healthy saturated fat. In contrast grass fed beef has an omega 6:3 ratio of 0.16 to 1.

Science suggests this ratio to be ideal for our diet. This is nearly the same ratio that fish has.  Grass fed beef usually has less than 10% of its fat as saturated. If you are a pregnant or breastfeeding mom, the extra omega 3 from the grass fed beef will provide incredible nutritional benefits for your child.

REAL BEEF Contributes to Better Health

As a result of greater processing and mass-production, we live in a land of  plenty, but the bounty no longer provides proper nutrition.

Take note of the scientific “proof” of the benefits of grass fed beef:

  1. It is a natural source of Omega 3 fats ***
  2. High in CLA (helpful for weight loss)
  3. Loaded with Beta Carotene
  4. Has over 400% more vitamin A & E

***If you have a child with ADHD, the extra omega 3 fats in grass fed beef can help improve their attention.

100% Grass-Fed Beef and Free-Range Turkey Sticks

I snack a lot.  I need too to help balance my blood sugar and to not reach for high trans-fat or sugar snacks.  If I’m not crunching on some home-made nut mixes, I am usually eating jerky.  For the longest time I was purchasing whatever was at the health food store thinking that it was healthy (why else would it be there?).  Come to find out that most of the meat used was high in bad fats, and contained so many fillers (like smoke flavoring hence gluten, and sugar).  This is why I personally order Nick’s Sticks.  Having a handful around the house, at the office, and even in the car makes it easy to prepare for those hunger cravings.

Nick’s Snack Sticks are made with 100% grass-fed beef or free-range turkey and seasoned with Redmond organic salt.  That’s it.  No other added ingredients.  Kids love them too!

Preparing meals can be difficult when you have a busy life, family, work, and school activities.  Personally, we feel the strain of that and we easily fall into the category of “eat whatever we can find”.  This makes it hard to eat well and prevent illness coming our way.  Plus its hard on the budget.

The Paleo Plan is a simple solution that can help sort out those “what’s for dinner” moments.  For a few dollars a month, pick a meal plan, and they give you weekly guides for dinner, the recipes, and even grocery lists.  It really does feel like you save money once you have a plan at the store.

Water is essential for life.  Our bodies are more than 70% water and designed to run primarily on water and minerals.  The water we drink, shower in and cook with can have a significant impact on our overall health.

According to the Environmental Working Group, 316 contaminants are found in the nation’s tap water, more than half have NO safety standards (3 of these were found in my home tap water).

The President’s Cancer Panel Report in 2010 stated that “Filtering home tap or well water can decrease exposure to numerous known or suspected carcinogens”.

In my office, I always talk to patients about the environment that our bodies are in.  If it is a healthy environment, health can flourish.  If it’s a poor or sick environment, health is harder to achieve and sustain.  When I say environment, I mean the foods we eat, as-well-as the water we drink and are exposed too.

I recommend filtering at least your shower and drinking water, if not the whole house.  Simple charcoal filters may make the water taste better, but is not removing other contaminants.  It’s important to remove as many contaminants as possible (at least 60 that are shown to be common in water), and to leave beneficial minerals in for optimal health and hydration.

Also, see below about a way to easily and thoroughly check your own home’s water supply.
