The Patient Experience

The Patient Experience | What to Expect

Thank you for considering The Livewell Clinic for your health care needs. Here is a personal note from Dr. Zac Watkins:

I want to personally welcome you to our office. Your willingness to succeed in health and disease prevention inspires me to work hard every day for my patients.

As someone who is seeking my help and expertise with your unique health situation, I guarantee that you will be treated with respect and with focused attention.

You will be comforted by our relaxing and quiet environment. We are conveniently located in West Des Moines on the “medical mile” in a professional setting. Feel free to help yourself to our quality organic teas, or chilled bottled water as we work together at your appointment.

With that said, I do have high expectations for you. This is not a “one-way” relationship. I expect you to understand that this line of work requires work!  Work from me, but also more so from you.  You will be required to perform functional lab testing which is going to help both of us get to the bottom of your health condition(s).  These tests may be different than others you have had or are familiar with.  You will be required to make dietary changes and eat a completely different way then you may now (this is no “fad diet”, or “weight loss scheme”). You will be required to take specifically-prescribed nutritional medicines, vitamins, and/or herbs multiple times per day. You will be required to make a financial commitment as you invest in your health (we either pay for our health now, or in the long run).

A common question I often get is “How long can I expect to do all of this stuff?”  The answer is, it depends on each individual person.  Some people improve quickly, others take 1 or 2 years (remember, it took you many years to get where you’re at now).  You will be asked to have patience with the process as we work to correct the specific health concerns you have This is definitely not a quick-fix clinic.  If that is what you are looking for, we may not be the right office for you at this time.

Finally, I expect that you be on time for your appointments with us.  Come prepared and ready to discuss your health, and ask questions that you need addressed. This is also respectful for those who are visiting with us after you. If you are running late, you will be asked to reschedule to a more convenient time.

When you chose to invest your resources and time with a provider, you as well may have high expectations (as you should!) and I will do my best to deliver on those.  You can expect that I will work hard to help you in your specific situation.  You can expect that you will get accurate interpretations of your laboratory work which will guide us to your specific treatment.  You can expect that your treatment with nutritional medicines, vitamins, and herbs have been personally researched by myself and are of the utmost quality to help you get well faster.  And just as I expect you to be on time for your appointments, you can expect me to be on time as well as be in the moment with you and your concerns.

I have spent many years studying and learning to keep up with how to best address your concerns from a functional medicine approach.  I believe functional medicine is true health-based medicine and will be the future of disease prevention.  This is why I chose this field over other healthcare occupations.

I truly enjoy working with patients who develop a desire to get well and to “LiveWell” and who put their trust in me to help them.  We do have the power to change and get well, but only if we are committed and willing to make necessary adjustments.

This is symbiotic relationship!  About 80% of you getting well depends on you.  I’m just here to give you the help and direction you need to be successful.  Remember, if you change your health, you can change your life!

I look forward to meeting with you.
